At Sadofskys Chartered Accountants, we are pleased to be silver sponsors of the Hull Women's Aid 50th Anniversary Ball. As a women-led business rooted in the heart of our business community, supporting this milestone event is deeply important to us - not just as a gesture of solidarity, but as a commitment to raising awareness about domestic abuse and its far-reaching impact.

Why Supporting Hull Women's Aid Matters to Sadofskys

Domestic abuse is a pervasive issue that can affect anyone, regardless of background, income, or circumstance. As a firm that values the wellbeing of our staff, clients, and the local community, we believe it is vital to shine a light on the realities of domestic abuse and support those working tirelessly to provide safety and hope to survivors.

Domestic abuse is not always physical; it can also be psychological and emotional. Coercive control is a form of domestic abuse involving a pattern of behaviours - such as isolating someone from friends and family, controlling finances, monitoring activities, and using threats or humiliation - that are designed to dominate, intimidate, and strip away a person's independence. It often leaves no visible marks but causes deep psychological harm.

We recognise that the home should be a place of safety and comfort. Yet, for too many, it is a place of fear and harm. By supporting Hull Women's Aid, we hope to help break the silence around domestic abuse, encourage open conversations, and ensure that those affected know they are not alone.

The Reality of Domestic Abuse in the UK

The statistics are sobering:

  • One in four women (27%) in England and Wales have experienced domestic abuse since the age of 16.
  • Over 12 million adults - about 26% of the population - have faced abusive behaviours from a partner or family member.
  • Domestic abuse is not limited by gender, but women are more likely to experience repeated and severe abuse. Around 30% of women and 22% of men have been affected.
  • Each year, more than 75,000 people in the UK are at high and imminent risk of being murdered or seriously injured as a result of domestic abuse.
  • On average, one woman is killed by a current or former partner every five days in England and Wales.
  • Domestic abuse overwhelmingly happens behind closed doors: 90% of incidents occur in a home or dwelling.
  • The police receive a domestic abuse-related call every 30 seconds, but less than a quarter of incidents are reported.
  • The impact extends to children, with 1 in 5 UK children having lived with an adult perpetrating domestic abuse.

A Collective Responsibility

Domestic abuse is not just a personal or family issue - it is a societal challenge that demands collective action. By supporting Hull Women's Aid, Sadofskys is helping to ensure that vital services remain available for those in need, and that awareness continues to grow. We are proud to stand with survivors, advocates, and the wider community in the fight to end domestic abuse.

Together, we can help create a future where every home is a safe home.

If you or someone you know is affected by domestic abuse, please reach out to local support services or call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline. You are not alone.
